Gigabyte BRiX Gaming UHD GBBNi7HG4-950-MF
A workstation or gaming mini-PC?
This mini-PC is a peculiar one. The product is pitched as a gaming product, yet it has a minimalistic appeal typically associated with professional-focused products with sleek angles and brushed aluminium surfaces that contrast with piano black end caps. Is Gigabyte is using the ‘gaming’ moniker for SEO-driven reasons?
The GB-BNi7HG4-950-MF brings to the table a unique hardware attribute, though: a desktop-derived discrete GPU in the form of a GeForce GTX 950. This certainly brings some gaming chops to this product compared with others in the roundup, but we think someone at Gigabyte was having a laugh the day they associated UHD gaming with a GTX 950. But this unit happily smashes out less demanding games or with some lowering of graphics settings in more recent titles at 1080p.
The I/O options on this unit are significant compared with other units here. Most notably this Brix has four graphics outputs in the form of three miniDisplayPort and one HDMI interface thanks to the GeForce GTX 950. This also allows four simultaneous video outputs.
Though pitched as a gaming unit, performance output, aesthetic appeal, small footprint and sufficient connectivity could see this mini-PC suitably placed on the desk of a creative professional. However if you’re a video producer, be mindful that the cooling revved up quite a racket during the X265 4K benchmark.
The price is a little steep, but that’s expected for a mini-PC dabbling in gaming.
