While it’s possible to spend up to $50,000 for a 4K projector from the likes of Sony, the entrylevel UHD projector market has bottomed out at around the $5,000 mark since economical models first arrived about a year ago now. That’s about to change however, with US projector-maker Optoma launching a cinemaquality 4K projector priced at US$1,999. There is a bit of trickery involved in bumping up of the pixel count on this unit, but the early reports are that the 24fps quality is visually on par with its more expensive predecessors. With a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio, 3,000 Lumens brightness, 140-inch projection size and the enhanced HDR10 colour gamut, this projector has a lot going for it. JB
