A browsing success. FREE | WWW.MOZILLA.ORG
The battle of the browsers is a bit like Game of Thrones. House Microsoft ruled for years, before Mozilla’s bannermen came through and put paid to its autocracy. House Chrome then sweeps across the globe, winning the love of the people. Wheels turn, and now Firefox is in open rebellion after a bunch of smart updates, though it requires fealty of your phone’s RAM. Don’t get this confused with Firefox Focus, a strippedback version that eschewed tabs for blocking ads and could trash your history at the hit of an always on-screen button. This Firefox is more ‘full fat’, replete with multiple tabs and a so-simple-why-isn’t-everyone-doing-this bookmarking system that sorts by tags rather than rigid folders. It’s lightning fast at search, pre-emptively filling out multiple, possible search terms at three characters in. We love how it integrates with other apps on your phone, opening tabs in the background rather than taking you out of the app you’re using. And the add-ons that can augment your browser are easy to bolt on. However, it’ll eat up your RAM compared to Chrome, chewing up 300MB compared to 212MB — but for the speed and convenience, it’s worth the cost to your silicon.
