Art Syd­ney Gallery of New South Wales Un­til 8 Oc­to­ber, 2017 A slide-show and floor talk with Mervyn Bishop and cu­ra­tors will take place on 5 July with many of the pho­tog­ra­pher’s sub­jects or their fam­ily join­ing the event. Bishop’s ca­reer has com­bined an artis­tic and jour­nal­is­tic point of view since the 1960s pro­vid­ing vi­tal Abo­rig­i­nal so­cial com­men­tary. With roles in news­pa­per photo-jour­nal­ism and for the Aus­tralian Gov­ern­ment, he cap­tured the now iconic image of Vin­cent Lin­giari of the Gurindji peo­ple meet­ing with Gough Whit­lam in 1975, as well as his­toric mo­ments in the early years of an im­por­tant era in In­dige­nous self-de­ter­mi­na­tion.
