‘Zavros is an aesthete: he paints beautiful things beautifully.’ – Robert Leonard

This monograph, simply titled ‘Michael Zavros’, showcases the artist’s broad practice – from hyper-realistic paintings, photography and sculpture to film and performance – with over 120 images of still life arrangements, selfportraits, Greek mythology, men’s fashion, and gilded interior design. Essays by Robert Leonard, Laurence Simmons and Chris Saines as well as interviews with the artist by Rhana Devenport and Beatrice Page shed light on the methods and ideas behind Zavros’s work; supported by floating citations from Sebastian Smee’s comparison of the artist’s paint technique to the obsessive hair brushing in F. Scott Fitzerald’s Tender is the Night, to Zavros describing his work as ‘narcissism’ and likening depictions of his daughter to ‘selfportraits’.
