Groms ready for Trigg Beach challenge
Margaret River junior surfers will rise to the challenge once more at Trigg Beach this weekend. Surfers including Margaret River’s Ry Dempsey (pictured) will compete at the Wahu Surfer Groms competition as part of a national series.
The WA event of the Wahu Surfer Groms competition will take place this weekend at Trigg Beach.
The competition showcases growing talent in the “micro grommet” age group, with children up to 14 competing for a place at the three-day Surfing Australia High-Performance Centre coaching camp.
Margaret River guns Ry Dempsey and Maddie Cawood will be among the WA contingent, alongside Yallingup’s Reilly Smith.
Surfing WA coach Mark Clift said the competitions were “super exciting for the kids”.
“Whether it’s a grom throwing on a coloured rash vest for the very first time, or those chasing the trip to the HPC, the event always provides a great mix of talent and participation,” he said.
The national competition involves more than 800 children, with WA the final event.
