Man awaits sentencing
A Margaret River man who crashed a car while driving under suspension will be sentenced next month.
On Monday, Margaret River Magistrate’s Court was told Dwight Mathew Van Wingerden was driving west on Rosa Brook Road on December 23 when he took a corner at speed and crashed his Holden sedan into a drain.
Police prosecutor Greg Ward said the car flew through the air and landed on its roof 15m away.
Sgt Ward said Van Wingerden escaped the crashed car through a rear window and suffered “heavy cuts and grazes and minor concus- sion”. He said Van Wingerden had a blood-alcohol reading of .089 and his licence had been suspended since December 1. Van Wingerden entered an endorsed plea of guilty and did not appear in court.
Magistrate Evan Shackleton issued a summons for Van Wingerden to appear for sentencing on February 20.
