Libs to promise a $6m school upgrade

Augusta Margaret River Times - - News -

Premier Colin Barnett was scheduled to join Vasse MLA Libby Mettam yesterday to pledge $6 million for a revamp of Cowaramup Primary School if the Liberal-National Government is returned at the March election.

The $6 million upgrade would pay for 11 new classrooms as well as offices and extend park- ing areas at the school, which is bursting at the seams because of Cowaramup’s strong population growth.

Mrs Mettam said Cowaramup was growing with many young families and the region’s birth rate meant upgrades to the school were essential.

“The population has doubled in the past decade to around 300 students from kindergarten to Year 6,” she said.

“This upgrade will provide students with the best possible facilities into the future.”

Mrs Mettam said members of the school’s Parents and Citizens’ Association were key drivers of the funding pledge.
