Sustainable House Day is fast approaching and Margaret River residents are urged to get involved.

Michael and Britta Sorensen, of Sorensen Architects, are recruiting houses with sustainable elements to open up their doors for the nationwide event.

“We’d love for all angles of sustainability to get involved,” Mrs Sorensen said.

“New houses, renovations, tiny houses, retro-fits.

“They don’t have to be perfect; just any that have made a decent effort towards sustainability.”

Margaret River has taken part in the event for several years, but 2016 was the first co-ordinated effort.

Mr Sorensen said eight of the 150 properties involved last year were local and all drew an appreciative and respectful crowd.

The couple agreed sustainable living was contributing to the culture of Margaret River and urged people to open their doors or visit some properties on the day to learn about sustainability techniques.

The event will be held on September 17 and strives for peer-topeer education and networking.
