Book showcases jeweller’s work
Jewellery designer John Miller has published a fourth edition of his book showcasing his life’s work.
The book, A Life in Jewellery, is a collection of work produced by Miller during his career.
“I began making a photographic record of the journey from early on,” Miller told the Times.
“This has now grown into a vast archive”
The book depicts more than 200 unique items, all with a different story.
A landscape bangle in the first few pages of the book features intricate yet recognisable South West locations.
“I’ve been working on developing Australian themes in jewellery for many years,” Miller said. “It’s challenging to keep it artistic without getting too kitsch.”
Many of the pieces in the book have international influence or are the result of customer requests.
“A lady was visiting from South Carolina in the USA and bought some pieces from our Yallingup gallery,” the designer said.
“She then got back to us and ordered a hand-carved gold bracelet with Old Testament themes. Scenes include Noah’s Ark, Adam and Eve. It took a week of painstaking carving, with a bit of swearing — a healthy mix of sacred and profane.”
A Life in Jewellery is available from the Margaret River and Yallingup John Miller Design galleries, Margaret River Book Shop and Viva Books, Busselton.
