Shire of Au­gusta-Mar­garet River chief ex­ec­u­tive Gary Ever­shed has quashed ru­mours he is set to re­tire, say­ing in­stead he will seek to ex­tend his con­tract if nec­es­sary to see through his am­bi­tious Mar­garet River Cul­tural Cen­tre re­de­vel­op­ment.

“My con­tract ex­pires in April, 2019 and I plan to not only com­plete that con­tract but, if re­quired, ex­tend that fur­ther,” he told the Times this week.

Next month’s lo­cal gov­ern­ment elec­tion may de­ter­mine the tenor of Mr Ever­shed’s time re­main­ing with the Shire af­ter a rift between the ad­min­is­tra­tion and sev­eral stand­ing coun­cil­lors.
