Tree park proposal for funding review

Augusta Margaret River Times - - News -

Investigations into a possible forested park in the Margaret River area will go back to the Shire’s sustainability committee for review.

The proposed arboretum was considered by councillors as part of a recommendation by the Shire of Augusta-Margaret River’s Sustainability Advisory Committee. The SAC previously said there were “strong opportunities” for an arboretum “showcasing alternatives to logging native forests and encourage (ing) sustainable development of local native timber plantations”.

The tree park would also offer carbon capture, tourism, habitat and education benefits, a recent report said.

However, funding for the project was limited by the constraints of the Shire’s Environmental Management Fund and was referred back to the SAC to consider other funding options.
