Despite losses in their recent grand finals, junior Hawks players Kalani Brooks and Julia Griffiths were honoured for their on-field efforts last Friday.

The South West Junior Football League presentations in Bunbury followed defeats for the male and female Augusta-Margaret River Hawks teams in their junior grand finals, with the Year 9 boys previously undefeated all season.

Julia won the Year 10-12 junior footballer of the year award for the second year running.

Kalani received the Year 9 footballer of the year prize at the same ceremony.

The league could not confirm rumours the players had record point tallies for their divisions, which was some solace for the disappointment of their finals losses.

The youth girls faltered against Bunbury a fortnight ago, going down with 22 points to Bunbury’s 55.

The boys’ team lost to the strong Bunbury side 40 points to 50.

Kalani Brooks and Julia Griffiths won footballer of the year awards for their hard work in the 2017 junior football season.
