Wrong pa­pers cause bal­lot con­fu­sion

Coun­cil can­di­dates were dis­turbed about news last week of an er­ror by the WA Elec­toral Com­mis­sion af­fect­ing lo­cal ratepay­ers.

The com­mis­sion con­firmed 579 vot­ers within the Au­gusta-Marga- ret River Shire were sent bal­lots for the Kal­go­or­lie-Boul­der lo­cal gov­ern­ment elec­tion. “The com­mis­sion has writ­ten to the af­fected elec­tors, who have been ad­vised to tear up the Kal­go­or­lie-Boul­der pack­age,” an un­named spokesman said. “. . .these pack­ages have been can­celled and will/can have no ef­fect on the elec­tion.” The spokesman said no other coun­cil ar­eas were sent wrong pa­pers.
