Wine art chosen
Yallingup artist Mary-Lynne Stratton was announced the winner of the Anniversary Wine Label Art Prize at Cape Mentelle’s Barrel Hall on Saturday.
Stratton’s artwork Dam and Reflection will feature on the label of a 2017 collaborative Margaret River cabernet sauvignon.
The wine will be produced for the region’s 50th anniversary in the wine-making industry and only one barrel will be made.
Stratton said the recognition of her work was a privilege.
“I am honoured that my artwork will be showcased,” she said.
“I am a landscape painter who mainly works with oils, and the Australian bush is my inspiration with its unruly and chaotic nature.”
Stratton’s original artwork, along with the anniversary cabernet sauvignon, will be auctioned at the Grand Cabernet Auction and Dinner on November 18 during the Gourmet Escape.
Proceeds from the auction will be donated to biodiversity management group Nature Conservation.
The organisation’s chairman Boyd Wykes said the group was grateful to be a recipient.
“We will be putting the money to very good use,” he said.
Margaret River Wine Association’s Amanda Whiteland said the event commemorated the fine art and wine of the community.
“The region has some fantastic artists and some of our best have put together an outstanding exhibition,” she said.
Remaining artworks for sale will be exhibited at Barrel Hall until October 28.
