Funds plea for possums

Augusta Margaret River Times - - Times News -

The South West Catchment Council will launch a crowdfunding campaign to save the western ringtail possum from extinction.

The group hopes to raise $30,000 to help with rescue, rehabilitation and habitat restoration.

The money will help to buy items such as milk, heat pads and incubators for sick or injured possums in care, as well as tree seedlings to regenerate local possum habitat.

SWCC chief executive Damien Potsma said money raised would also go towards buying track and release tags to monitor rehabilitated possums.

“South West residents are lucky to share their backyard with a critically endangered species,” he said. “We are calling on our community to take action and help us protect and conserve this unique marsupial before it’s too late. Donations will help make a real difference in the possum’s future.”

A VIP “nibbles and night stalk” event will be held in Busselton in December for those who donate more than $200. To donate, visit
