Thief steals food from cafe venue

Augusta Margaret River Times - - Times News - Sarah Ison

Gnarabup’s White Elephant Cafe was broken into for the eighth time in two years last week, despite the venue taking extra precautions following the slew of burglaries.

“The guy broke into our coolroom and just took food this time around,” Margaret River Hospitality Group director Alex Brooks said.

“The person we’ve got on camera is the same or at least very similar looking to someone we’ve seen footage of breaking in before.”

Mr Brooks said after the first few incidents, the venue installed high-definition CCTV, highgrade safes, alarms and deadbolt locks.

“We’ve had computers stolen and a lot of damage done, and despite precautions and working with police, the venue is a target.”

Margaret River police Sergeant Brett Cassidy said the main challenge for police was the cafe’s isolation, making regular patrols difficult.
