Clas­sic at­tracts star line-up

Mar­garet River Surf Clas­sic cel­e­brated its 36th an­nual com­pe­ti­tion last week­end with Surfers Point host­ing more than 100 of WA’s top surfers.

The men’s open saw 31 com­peti­tors bat­tle it out for a place in the fi­nals, and top spot was taken out by Mar­garet River’s Dave Del­roy-Carr, fol­lowed by Yallingup’s Jake Pat­ter­son.

Shaun Howe came in third and Jed Mat­tin­son earned him­self fourth place.

The open women’s fi­nal was dom­i­nated by lo­cal surfers and saw Mar­garet River’s Mia McCarthy take out first place against Grace­town’s Laura Ma­caulay who placed sec­ond.

Mar­garet River’s Ara­belle Gib­son and Mad­die Ca­wood placed third and fourth re­spec­tively in the tight scor­ing fi­nal.

The 21-and-un­der divi­sion saw Mar­garet River’s Ben Spence plac­ing first, de­feat­ing fel­low res­i­dent Cyrus Cox, who came in at sec­ond place, and Seth Van Haeften and Duke Nagtzaam in third and fourth place.

The lo­cals’ com­pe­ti­tion was a

favourite for spec­ta­tors and saw Ro­han Annesley, Jade Parker, Brett Hardy and Shane Beard place first to fourth re­spec­tively.

The win­ners cel­e­brated at The Com­mon Bistro on Sun­day night.

Mia McCarthy de­feated fel­low Mar­garet River surfers to take out top spot in the women’s com­pe­ti­tion. IN­SET: Grace­town’s Laura Ma­caulay placed sec­ond in the women’s com­pe­ti­tion, top, and, Jake Pat­ter­son placed sec­ond in the open men’s divi­sion, be­low.

Mar­garet River’s Dave Del­roy-Carr won the Men’s Open divi­sion

Ro­han Annesley placed first in the lo­cals only com­pe­ti­tion.

Jade Parker came sec­ond in the lo­cals only round.
