Classic attracts star line-up
Margaret River Surf Classic celebrated its 36th annual competition last weekend with Surfers Point hosting more than 100 of WA’s top surfers.
The men’s open saw 31 competitors battle it out for a place in the finals, and top spot was taken out by Margaret River’s Dave Delroy-Carr, followed by Yallingup’s Jake Patterson.
Shaun Howe came in third and Jed Mattinson earned himself fourth place.
The open women’s final was dominated by local surfers and saw Margaret River’s Mia McCarthy take out first place against Gracetown’s Laura Macaulay who placed second.
Margaret River’s Arabelle Gibson and Maddie Cawood placed third and fourth respectively in the tight scoring final.
The 21-and-under division saw Margaret River’s Ben Spence placing first, defeating fellow resident Cyrus Cox, who came in at second place, and Seth Van Haeften and Duke Nagtzaam in third and fourth place.
The locals’ competition was a
favourite for spectators and saw Rohan Annesley, Jade Parker, Brett Hardy and Shane Beard place first to fourth respectively.
The winners celebrated at The Common Bistro on Sunday night.
