Relax, dive in to help charity
Free-diving and fundraising will be combined this month as instructors Kevin Hendry and Tania Douthwaite embark on their South West Freediving and Yoga Tour, raising money for the Rumah Sehat Humanitarian Project in Bali.
The pair are volunteering to take people through discounted, oneday free-diving courses, donating the money raised to the charity, which delivers essential services to impoverished Balinese citizens.
Mr Hendry, who owns a dive school in Bali, said the idea was to offer a valuable experience to Capes residents while supporting Rumah Sehat.
“The thinking was to provide discount charity fundraising courses for people who might not otherwise have done (them) and just make them ask ‘why not?’,” he said. “And instead of just donating right out of their own pockets, they also do something for themselves.”
Ms Douthwaite will also hold community yoga before each class, which will be run by donation for further fundraising.
“It’s also an opportunity we’re offering people,” Ms Douthwaite said. “We’re teaching skills and knowledge.”
The course includes a 90-minute yoga session, a sausage sizzle, three hours of theory, 45 minutes of breathwork and two hours of practice in a pool or on a calm beach.
Two-day courses are also available after the beginners’ course.
