Man, 19, faces charges of stealing taxi

Augusta Margaret River Times - - News -

A 19-year-old Margaret River man will appear in court next month after it is claimed he stole a taxi at the weekend.

Margaret River police officerin-charge Sergeant Brett Cassidy said at 1am on Saturday two men jumped into the back of a maxi taxi parked at the IGA rank. The driver was outside the vehicle at the time and told the two men it was pre-booked for another customer and they needed to get out.

When the driver had his back turned, it’s alleged the offender climbed into the front seat and drove off. “The van was found abandoned a short distance away with the keys left in the ignition and the engine running,” Sgt Cassidy said.

The man will appear at the Margaret River Magistrates Court on June 11.
