Medal haul for students

Augusta Margaret River Times - - Sport -

A swag of medals was bagged by a group of senior students from the Margaret River Karate Club at the weekend who travelled to Joondalup to compete at the Wado Karate Open.

After ferocious battle during the day-long tournament, all six competitors came away with a result.

Senior club instructor Paul Creaney said he was impressed by the high calibre of the competition.

“It was particularly pleasing when you consider that two of our team (Taj Thomas and Cuba Goodall) had returned to competition after long lay-offs due to injury,” he said. “Also, acknowledgement should be given to Jaxon Deighton and Zane McKee — who are both just beginning on the competition circuit — for their tremendous efforts on the day. Both showed poise well above their experience.”

Creaney said the day’s result was impressive, with all competitors managing to bring home a medal.

Jaxon Deighton, 13.
