Trails set to shine as centrepiece of laid-back festival
Dunsborough and Margaret River’s mountain biking trails will be front and centre at the weekend when the Down South MTB festival kicks off with two days of competitive and recreational mountain biking.
Mountain Bikers will test skill and stamina on June 2 and 3, taking on moderate climbs, thrilling descents and other obstacles and hazards. Organised by the Marga- ret River Off Road Cycling Association, Cape Mountain Bikers and the Dunsborough Cycle Club, the Down South MTB Festival includes a range of XCO racing, dual slalom racing and a club relay challenge.
The event, which is split between the two venues, aims to celebrate mountain biking in the South West and showcase the region’s mountain biking facilities.
Event organiser Richard Renn said the festival had gained widespread acclaim as one of the most laid-back and achievable mountain bike events on the WAMBA calendar.
He said while some riders competed for cash prizes or WA Mountain Bikers Association XC State Series titles, most participated for fun.
“Most ride in one of the festival’s fun events to experience the warmth and vibrancy that only the Down South MTB Festival can provide,” he said.
