Com­peti­tors ready for open karate tournament

The 2018 Mar­garet River Open Karate Tournament will be­gin at 9am at the Re­cre­ation Cen­tre on Sun­day.

The an­nual event, which has been run­ning for more than 25 years, has be­come a high­light on the WA karate cal­en­dar and at­tracts com­peti­tors of all ages from all over WA bent on pit­ting their fight­ing skills against each other in friendly ri­valry.

This year will prove no ex­cep­tion with more than 100 com­peti­tors ex­pected to de­scend on the com­mu­nity from as far away as Toodyay, Fremantle, Perth, Wa­roona and Bus­sel­ton.

Com­pe­ti­tion will start with the tra­di­tional kata events dur­ing the morn­ing.

The ever-pop­u­lar ku­mite fight­ing is ex­pected to draw fire through­out the af­ter­noon and is a pop­u­lar part of the tournament with the pub­lic.

The event is open to all and mem­bers of the pub­lic are asked to cheer on the com­peti­tors.
