Margaret River’s Ben Veitch and Ziggy Bullock were crowned State champions at the WA Bodyboarding Championships in Mandurah last weekend.

Bodyboarders from across the State battled strong winds and stormy seas for the final event of the 2018 championships.

Veitch used the rough conditions to his advantage, picking off the biggest waves on offer to fend off Geraldton’s Lachlan Hearne and Trigg’s Joel Hughan to claim the 2018 Open Men's title.

Locals Max McGregor and Ziggy Bullock competed in the under-16 cadet boys’ division, and placed third and fourth respectively.

Bullock then claimed victory in the under-14 grommet boys’ division, capturing his maiden State championship title.

“I didn’t really know what to expect this weekend with the big swell and strong winds,” he said. “I’m stoked to have won the State title and qualified for my first Australian Titles event.”

After an exciting start to the series in Margaret River in March, and the conclusion to the State titles at the weekend, a team of 21 WA bodyboarders will now prepare for the Australian Bodyboard Titles in New South Wales in August.
