Sus­tain­able liv­ing in­spi­ra­tion un­earthed

Land­care and sus­tain­abil­ity guru Chris Fer­reira will be in Mar­garet River next week for Sus­tain­able House Day.

Fer­reira will speak about his new book, A Place in the Coun­try, at the Mar­garet River Book­shop on Thurs­day at 7pm and the night is open for any­one, not just farm­ers.

“Peo­ple can come with ques­tions and I can give ad­vice on a range of things like tips on get­ting home food pro­duc­tion go­ing, to mak­ing their home more en­ergy-ef­fi­cient,” he said.

“It doesn’t mat­ter if you have 200sqm or 200,000ha, you still need to un­der­stand and get the best out of your soil.

“I want peo­ple to fall in love with the land, be­cause the world des­per­ately needs hu­mans that love it, nur­ture it and care for it.”

Mean­while, a “mini-expo” will be held at the Mar­garet River Or­ganic Gar­den on Satur­day, Septem­ber 8.

Fer­reira will be joined at the expo by Witch­cliffe’s Hemp Homes Aus­tralia op­er­a­tor Gary Rogers, as well as other speak­ers look­ing at com­post­ing and the grow­ing is­sue of land­fill af­fected by global trends around the dis­posal of en­er­gy­in­ten­sive cloth­ing.

En­er­gise Mar­garet River will also demon­strate bi­cy­cles used to power elec­tri­cal ap­pli­ances that peo­ple can try out for them­selves.

Sus­tain­abil­ity ar­chi­tect Mike Sorensen will run a ques­tion-an­dan­swer ses­sion at a booth be­tween the dif­fer­ent talks.

Just Home MR will have a dis­play on so­cial hous­ing is­sues in the re­gion.

In ad­di­tion, Deb Cham­bers and Sally El­liott will host a De­sign your own Tiny House work­shop, with prizes for cre­ative ideas from all ages and abil­i­ties, with judg­ing at 12.45pm.
