New pest tax

Augusta Margaret River Times - - News -

The WA Opposition is warning a new tax will hit South West producers.

Property owners on the Perth fringe and throughout the South West would be hit with a $50 Declared Pest Tax proposed by Agriculture Minister Alannah MacTiernan.

Shadow agriculture spokesman Ian Blayney said the tax was designed to fund volunteer groups and biosecurity issues.

“Agriculture Minister Alannah MacTiernan is trying to offload responsibility for funding pest control to property owners and then hand responsibility for managing that control to volunteer groups,” he said.
