Wine on the up
Australian drinkers are increasingly turning to wine, with the latest Australian Bureau of Statistics figures showing beer consumption is on the decline.
The statistics released this week showed a 3.4 per cent downturn in beer sales in the past financial year, while the wine sector grew 0.4 per cent.
In 2016-17, beer consumption was 39.2 per cent of the market, wine was 38.3 per cent, spirits 13.1 per cent, pre-mixers were 6 per cent, while cider increased slightly to 3.4 per cent.
Overall, Australians were drinking less, with alcohol consumption at its lowest level since the 1960s.
