Wine on the up

Augusta Margaret River Times - - News -

Australian drinkers are increasingly turning to wine, with the latest Australian Bureau of Statistics figures showing beer consumption is on the decline.

The statistics released this week showed a 3.4 per cent downturn in beer sales in the past financial year, while the wine sector grew 0.4 per cent.

In 2016-17, beer consumption was 39.2 per cent of the market, wine was 38.3 per cent, spirits 13.1 per cent, pre-mixers were 6 per cent, while cider increased slightly to 3.4 per cent.

Overall, Australians were drinking less, with alcohol consumption at its lowest level since the 1960s.
