Mitchell Medal for Stewart
Former Margaret River ruckman Alex Stewart was the toast of the Goldfields Football League this week after his excellent 2018 season was rewarded with the Mitchell Medal.
Stewart, who was also crowned the GFL’s premier player in 2012, polled 34 votes to edge joint runners-up, Mines Rovers’ Jordan Delbridge and Railways’ Jesse Hawkins, by five votes.
It was a typically consistent cam- paign by Stewart, whose major influence on the Roos squad helped them to 10 wins.
Stewart also starred at the annual Landmark carnival in Perth, earning best-on-ground honours in the final against Mortlock as the GFL grabbed the division 2 title.
It was the GFL’s first Landmark grand final win in 10 years.
Stewart joined Kalgoorlie for the 2012 season after the family home burnt down in the Margaret River fires.
