50 years of service coming to an end
AFTER 50 years in the timber industry Gareth Lazarides has decided to take things a little easier and he will go into semi-retirement at the end of this year and his business, Lazarides Timber Agencies, will be wound down by the end of December.
“We expect we will be holding an auction to sell off remaining stock and machinery in early December,” said Gareth. It was hoped that he would have been able to sell the business so that there was no interruption to supply to his clients, however, this did not eventuate so Gareth is holding discussions with other merchants in an effort to have an outlet to supply his clients, in particular our woodcraft clients as he is aware there is no outlet for this type of service on the north side of Brisbane.
Gareth will continue to trade timber but mainly supplying the wholesale market in pack lots as he will be operating from a much smaller warehouse. He will be contactable on his normal office phone number until the end of January.
In 1964 Gareth started as a general trainee with a well known timber company and stayed with them until 1983. During this time he learnt a great deal about the industry and developed a passion for everything timber. Gareth left his employer in 1983 to establish a ‘one man’ timber trading company.
He pursued his own business with ambition and in 1989 established Lazarides Timber Agencies. Gareth’s son Troy joined the business in 1993 and played a major role in the Lazarides Timber Agencies expansion.
Gareth and his son Troy extended sincere thanks to all their clients for their support and friendship over the years. “It has been a privilege to be of assistance to you all.”
