Innovation is the key to LSW Group’s continued success
A NEW treatment method is helping to put an all-Australian owned and operated metals heat treatment company.- and the largest manufacturer of knives for the.timber industry -- at the forefront of the business.
The LSW Group has just released its revolutionary new Chipper Knife, the ‘Extra Hard Chipper Knife’ which is made from high carbon, high chromium vanadium steel and cryogenically treated by its “CRYOTUFF” method.
“We are proud to state that this is a world first technology, developed by the LSW Group in Australia,” says principal Wayne Ellis.
“This will be a mate to our famous ‘Extra Hard Counter Knives’ that are used throughout Australia and Asia. We are also using this technology in some of our Flaker Knives,” he said.
The Group started in the fifties in a small factory in Auburn in Sydney’s western suburbs and began to expand rapidly from 1999 purchasing one of Australia’s largest machine knife companies and commercial metals heat treatment company, growing to now having 16 companies in the Group.
“Unlike our local competitors we are a wholly-owned Australian manufacturing company,” says Wayne with pride.
The Group has two manufacturing facilities in Bankstown as well as facilities in Yennora and Unanderra and Seven Hills, and a sales office as well as a distributor in Malaysia servicing the Asian market. The Group recently appointed an agent in Taiwan to service the Chinese market.
“Our strategic plan is to be a major player in the Asian market and also to look for possibilities worldwide.
“The acquisition of Chapman Saws gives us an opportunity to offer our customers the total range of products within the timber industry as they are also an Australian manufacturer of quality saws.
“We service most of the timber mills throughout Australia and with a sales and marketing branch in Penang, Malaysia we export into Asia and China and also export to New Zealand and Papua New Guinea.
“We are continually expanding. At present we encompass 16 companies, all interrelated within the engineering field including fabrication, machining, welding, hardfacing, abrasives, bandsaw blades, saws, precision and repetition engineering, waterjet cutting, toolmaking .. and the list goes on.
“Our product range also covers the timber trade as we specialize in a full range of knives (chipper, flaker knives and parts, serrated back and solid planer knives, planer heads) machine components, abrasives and saws,” said Wayne.
