Combilift Australia – growing towards a total solution provider

OVER THE past three years the Combilift range in Australia has been very fortunate in experiencing a very healthy increased growth year on year. “This has been part of our strategy,” says Chris Walker, General Manager.

“Sometimes the standard selection of materials handling equipment may not be suitable for a customer’s application. More and more we’ve had customers coming to us asking for solutions to moving long or awkward loads. Combilift Australia was created to select the best niche equipment and act as an importer, dealer and service provider into the Australian market,” he said so this explains why Chris is so passionate about the products and services they provide.

“Being able to offer our customers products very few companies in Australia offers is extremely exciting; especially for applications where they thought there was no solution.

“Now with 15 core products in the range and variants available for each one, the products have been handpicked due to their reliability and performance. We understand that there is no one forklift that will work for all applications. Even in the same industry, our customers are all very different in their application needs, whether it is the location and environment, available working space, or product being moved, all of these factors need to be taken into account to select the best machine for the job. A lot of the time this could be a standard Forklift, however, for those times when a standard forklift won’t work we are very happy to be able to offer our range of customised solutions.”

Designed and manufactured in Ireland, the Combilift range first came into Australia in late 2001. Made up of a range of equipment including multidirectional units and side loaders, Combilift machines are perfect for long and awkward loads.

The advanced maneuverability and smaller working area required has made Combilift a massive hit with Australian businesses.

“The timber industry has long been the stalwart of the Combilift customer base and without this support Combilift would not be the business in Australia that it is today, for which we are extremely grateful. The very first unit Combilift ever produced was the C4000 which gained early acceptance from timber customers and forms a large part of our sales and is still very much the machine of choice today for many of our Combilift customers,” said Chris.

The Combilift Australia range is continually expanding, with equipment from the smallest product in the range the new Combi WR (Walkie Reach Stacker). The Walkie Reach allows the operator to work in very narrow aisles, while also increasing visibility of the pallet being moved.

At the opposite end of the range is the very large Combilift Straddle Carrier, which allows for handling of large shipping containers or heavy awkward loads up to 70,000 kg in tight spaces

“I often wonder what innovations will come along from the factory. We always seem to have something to get our teeth into year on year. Combilift invests a huge part of its turnover in R&D and the continually expanding range is a testament to this commitment,” comments Chris.

“For The Australian market without doubt our current focus area is the new branch and service network that Combilift Australia is well down the road of setting up.

“The ongoing growth has also highlighted the requirement for a well-trained and dedicated service network throughout Australia.

“In the past six months Combilift has opened branches in Oxley in Queensland, Huntingwood in New South Wales, Truganina in Victoria and Welshpool in Western Australia. From these branches we have based our Area Sales Managers. We carry a large amount of dedicated local spare parts stock and run our new service technicians complete in their new Ford Transit service vans.

“Each Technician has undergone training on the Combilift range and carries a large amount of dedicated Combilift parts in the service vans – allowing us to respond quickly and have the right tools and parts on hand to complete the job.

“I’m very pleased where we are right now,” says Chris, “but there is still much more we want to achieve. We want to continue our success in the multidirectional and niche load handling market and increase our market share even further with the Combilift range. We have a passionate bunch of people driving Combilift Australia’s success both in-house and from our very loyal factory and we show no signs of slowing down.”

It’s service with a smile
