Combilift drives productivity at Meyer New South Wales

Taking delivery of the first Combilift ever delivered to Australia close to 20 years ago Meyer Timber continues to benefit from the increased productivity and space savings delivered by Combilift multi directional forklifts.

Operating in Dandenong Victoria since 1975 and coming under the Meyer banner in August 2007, Meyer Timber NSW took delivery of their first Combilift “Side loader” in 2001.

David Pullen, the Production Manager at Meyer Timber, says the reason behind the shift to Combilfit was a simple one. “When we first looked at Combilift, we were moving 18 metre beams. The move to Combilift allowed us much more flexibility in the warehouse.”

While no longer shifting such long loads the value of the Combilfit solution has not decreased. With six C4800 LPG, Multi directional units in operation across the two New South Wales sites, with lift capacities to 4800kg and lift heights to six and half metres, David says his Combilift’s still offer the same flexibility.

“We have been able to increase our stockholding by operating Combilift on site. It has allowed us to increase the amount of racking, increase speed and accuracy of orders and decrease lead times to customers.”

The synergies that exist between Combilift and Meyer do not stop there. With Combilift’s operation from its newly built 46,000 square metre production facility in Monaghan Ireland in 2018 to coincide with their 20th anniversary, Meyer Timber NSW is looking to grow into their own new 40,000 square metre facility in Penrith New South Wales by end of year.

David says of the new facility:

“Our new facility will substantially increase our racking capability and this will increase our service offering to customers.”

Meyer Timber don’t just see the space savings that will be delivered through the custom built Combilift’s operating across their business ... with increased incoming and outgoing movements, the OH&S benefits and operator comfort cannot be discounted.

“The long-term operators like working on the Combilift machines, in particular the space in the cabin and the structure and layout of the cab make the Combilift a favourite of the operators,” said David.

From an OH&S perspective David also recognises the benefits of another Combilift solution, the Combilift Straddle Carrier. With the ability to prestage loads, removing operators from the vicinity of trucks and speeding movements in and out of a yard the straddle is gaining a lot of traction in the timber industry and something David is keen to explore with Combilift to offer a complete materials handling solution across Meyer sites.

“The long-term operators like working on the Combilift machines, in particular the space in the cabin and the structure and layout of the cab make the Combilift a favourite of the operators,” said David.

Combilift ... making work easier and safer.
