Soft­wood lum­ber im­ports con­tinue to grow

Aus­tralia’s dressed (planed and/or sanded) Sawn Soft­wood prod­uct im­ports rose 38.0% to 698,099 m3 over the year-ended June 2018. The rise in im­ports was 192,087 m3, ac­count­ing for 73% of the to­tal rise in Sawn Soft­wood im­ports for the year. In June 2018, im­ports of dressed sawn soft­wood to­talled 61,612m3. The av­er­age price of im­ports over the month was AUDFob593.24/m3. All main­land States ex­pe­ri­enced Sawn Soft­wood im­port rises, with boom­ing con­sump­tion in Vic­to­ria feed­ing into a 73.0% rise in that State’s im­ports, which reached 209,958 m3. Im­ports to Queens­land were up 39.2% to 184,313 m3 and those to New South Wales rose 19.2% to 252,217 m3. www.in­dus­tryedge.com.au
