Looking back on 2014 and good tidings for the New Year
IT IS now coming up to two calendar years since the former Forests NSW was corporatised, forming Forestry Corporation of NSW, and it has
manager. decisions to restructure the business and transform Forestry Corporation’s performance. As a result, we are becoming a more streamlined operation the communities we work in.
We received some acknowledgement of our renewed community focus funding for community services by $5.2 million. This funding goes towards activities like maintenance of facilities such as recreation areas and roads not used for timber haulage. Recent changes in our Hardwood Forests Division have separated land management responsibilities from sales and production in order to clarify responsibilities and improve responsiveness.
Forestry Corporation is the largest commercial forest manager in NSW, but we are just one part of this State’s timber industry and working with our customers and contractors to ensure the industry remains competitive is crucial for the industry as a whole. We expect that customer service will continue to improve following changes we’ve been making over the past two years.
Looking ahead, there’s plenty of work to be done but we will go into the November, indicates we are heading in the right direction with the recovery of the Hardwood Forests Division a notable achievement. The division had recorded notable losses in recent years but is now on track to return a forestry has a strong future in NSW.
We wish all our friends and colleagues in the forestry sector a safe and happy Christmas season and look forward to continuing to work together into 2015.
