ASH told it workforce today (17 March) that the Heyfield mill will close in September next year and its green-mill will close in six months.
Chief executive Vince Hurley said he had shown the Government its financials and modelling.
“Having done the analysis we have no alternative but to close the mill, “he said.
Clinton Tilley director of ASH said that the Andrews government had been disingenuous in saying it would do whatever it could to save the jobs at Heyfield.
“The owners will now explore options of relocating the manufacturing plant to Tasmania,” he added.
