ASH told it work­force to­day (17 March) that the Hey­field mill will close in Septem­ber next year and its green-mill will close in six months.

Chief ex­ec­u­tive Vince Hur­ley said he had shown the Gov­ern­ment its fi­nan­cials and mod­el­ling.

“Hav­ing done the anal­y­sis we have no al­ter­na­tive but to close the mill, “he said.

Clin­ton Til­ley di­rec­tor of ASH said that the An­drews gov­ern­ment had been disin­gen­u­ous in say­ing it would do what­ever it could to save the jobs at Hey­field.

“The own­ers will now ex­plore op­tions of re­lo­cat­ing the man­u­fac­tur­ing plant to Tas­ma­nia,” he added.
