Prestigious award for major chipping company
Aforestry and timber company with more than 85 years service in the industry has been awarded a 2017 Telstra South Australian Medium Business Award.
L. V. Dohnt and Company, one of Australia’s largest infield chipping and logging companies, was among this year’s major award winners from around Australia.
“Every year since the awards started in 1992 they have been a place for Australia’s remarkable small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) to gather to explore their dreams and their realities,” said Telstra Chief Executive Officer Andrew Penn.
He said the awards continued to be a way for SMBs to step outside the day-to-day business operations, to ask big questions, and to celebrate what they had achieved.
“SMBs inspire us all because of their ability to find new and better ways to do things, their persistence and resilience, their courage to take risks, and their incredible talent and commitment. That is why the Telstra Business Awards are important. They showcase the very best of Australia’s small and medium business talent,” he said.
Back in 1932, with the economy in the grips of a deep depression, Lawrence Victor Dohnt set up a logging company with the simple goal to provide for his family. Now a fourth generation family business, L.V. DOHNT & CO. Pty Ltd is a revered name in the forestry industry, with a reputation for providing the southern hemisphere with sustainable and certified wood fibre to meet the needs of an expanding population.
Celebrating its 85th anniversary this year, L.V. Dohnt & Co. Pty Ltd has overcome its fair share of challenges, from the Ash Wednesday fires burning through 20,000 hectares of pine plantations to the devastating impact of the global financial crisis on some of its largest customers. Through sheer resilience and the support of its loyal staff, the company today stands as one of South Australia’s most iconic businesses and recently entered the South Australian Family Business Hall of Fame.
