The first of six spe­cial re­ports

This South West Slopes re­port is the first of six so­cio-eco­nomic stud­ies FWPA is un­der­tak­ing. A broader NSW re­port will be pub­lished shortly and in ad­di­tion to the South West Slopes re­port will in­clude a full re­port on the Cen­tral Table­lands area sur­round­ing Bathurst and Oberon. The re­search team is headed by Jacki Schirmer and Can­berra Univer­sity. Jim Houghton, Statis­tics and Eco­nom­ics Man­ager, For­est and Wood Prod­ucts Aus­tralia Lim­ited, said the in­ten­tion of the stud­ies was to con­tinue to gen­er­ate data on the im­pact of the for­est and wood prod­ucts sec­tor in the com­mu­ni­ties in which we op­er­ate.

“The program scope has been ex­panded with di­rect in­volve­ment of the Com­mon­wealth and in the case of the NSW re­port a link be­tween the re­search team and the NSW Gov­ern­ment to ex­tend the study be­yond the South West slopes area. The re­ports for NSW, WA, Green Tri­an­gle and Vic­to­ria are com­ing through in draft form.” These will be fol­lowed by re­ports for Tas­ma­nia and SE Queens­land in De­cem­ber 2017.
