The first of six special reports
This South West Slopes report is the first of six socio-economic studies FWPA is undertaking. A broader NSW report will be published shortly and in addition to the South West Slopes report will include a full report on the Central Tablelands area surrounding Bathurst and Oberon. The research team is headed by Jacki Schirmer and Canberra University. Jim Houghton, Statistics and Economics Manager, Forest and Wood Products Australia Limited, said the intention of the studies was to continue to generate data on the impact of the forest and wood products sector in the communities in which we operate.
“The program scope has been expanded with direct involvement of the Commonwealth and in the case of the NSW report a link between the research team and the NSW Government to extend the study beyond the South West slopes area. The reports for NSW, WA, Green Triangle and Victoria are coming through in draft form.” These will be followed by reports for Tasmania and SE Queensland in December 2017. The South West Slopes report was prepared by Jacki Schirmer 1,2, Diana Gibbs 3, Mel Mylek 1, Anders Magnusson 4 and Julian Morison 4.
