95 BESART BERISHA

Australian Four Four Two - - 99 THINGS TO WATCH OUT FOR THIS SEASON -

Joint Golden Boot winner 2016/17

The greatest pantomime villain in the history of the A-League became the first player to reach the magical mark of 100 goals last term and he did it in only 156 appearances. The Albanian’s goal in last season’s Grand Final was arguably one of his best and his ability to shine on the game’s greatest occasions should earn him the nickname Big Time. Shane Smeltz (second highest A-League all-time goalscorer with 92 goals) – When I think of Besart, I think of someone who is hungry to score goals and you see that whenever he plays. He’s shown an ability to score goals wherever he’s played. He likes to lead from the front as an example for his team and there is no question about his strike rate – it’s fantastic. He also likes to be a bit of pest for defenders... he’s just a quality striker. Archie Thompson (number three A-League all time goal scorer - 90 goals) – He’s probably not blessed with the best skills in dribbling but he just knows how to get into position to score goals. He is someone that just loves to score, and for me, he’s a real typical out and out striker. Former Brisbane Roar team-mate Jade North – Everyone remembers Bes when he would lose his mind on the field – the way he shows his emotions on the field – and all the goals he’s scored. He’s a big character for the A-League and he’s always been a character. The characters are all dying out in sport in general. Fans love to come and watch characters and that’s why he’s been great for the A-League.
