Australian Four Four Two - - WORLD CUP 2006 -

What’s your advice for the class of 2018?

Just believe that we can compete against the rest of the world and that Australians, as a collective, are strong. No matter who puts on that jersey, they should feel like they’re going to do the country proud and go there and enjoy the experience, as well. It’s difficult, because I don’t know exactly what they’ve been doing or what the coach’s messages are, but I’m sure they’ll be prepared and ready to go once they step foot onto the pitch.

Who’s your favourite current Socceroo?

I love when Tom Rogic is on fire. He’s hard to stop, he’s got such talent that he can actually make something happen out of nothing. Aaron Mooy’s passing ability and the way he plays the game is fantastic, and you’ve got Mile Jedinak who brings that

steel to midfield and that experience. There are other players like Trent Sainsbury, a defender who reads the game so well but starts the game really well in terms of his passing through the back. There are a number of them, it’s too hard to pick just one.

Who’s the biggest dangerman they’ll face in Group C?

For France, I think Antoine Griezmann. The last few years, he’s shown that he’s one of the best players in the world. They’ve got a lot.

Who will be the star of this World Cup?

I still think that Lionel Messi will be the best player of the tournament. I’m quite confident it’ll be him. And we’re all wondering how Mohammed Salah is going to go – but he’s proved already that he’s already a star, star providing he can shake off his injury in time. time

What’s your prediction for the Socceroos?

I’m hoping that we’re going to get through the first round. I know a lot of people wouldn’t give them any opportunity but I always believe the Aussie spirit will get us through. It’s going to be a tough group but hopefully we can get enough points to get through the second round.

Who will win it all?

Brazil will probably have the strongest team, I think they’ll go on and win it this year. It also depends on whether Neymar is able to play, but it looks like he should be.
