Australian Four Four Two - - WORLD CUP 2006 -

What’s your advice for the class of 2018?

Enjoy it. Don’t take anything for granted, and just have a go. Especially the group that we’re in, our goal would be to just get out of the group. No regrets, that would be the big one.

Who’s your favourite current Socceroo?

If he’s on, I’d probably say Aaron Mooy or Massimo Luongo. I like both of them. It looks like Massimo has

had a good year. Hopefully he’s fresh when he comes in.

Who’s the biggest dangerman they’ll face in Group C?

France is scary. You don’t even need to pick one, they’ve got quality all over the field. Peru is going to be just a tough one, I think. But Denmark, you’re going to look at Christian Eriksen. He’s one of those guys who makes that team turn a little bit. He’s been unbelievable at Tottenham this year and the bigger teams in every competition are having a look at him supposedly, and rightly so.

Who will be the star of this World Cup?

Hopefully not for our sake, but you probably look at Kylian Mbappé from France. If you’re talking real young, up-and-coming guys, the season he’s had at Paris, and at such a young age, you can see he might be a good one.

What’s your prediction for the Socceroos?

I hope they really go well. Everyone’s going to be watching, it’s going to be a tough task but they’re the best times to actually play – when everyone’s writing you off. It’s perfect to go out there and prove everyone wrong. To get out of the group would be amazing. From my experience with Bert van Marwijk, the way he thinks is if you’ve got the quality, go and use it, and take the game by the scruff of the neck. That’s the Dutch way, if there is one.

Who will win it all?

I hope Argentina, just for Lionel Messi, because it could be his last one. He’s done everything in club football and it would be nice for him to do the same as Maradona did.
