Always something morenout there!
IT’S A CLICHÉ, but it really is a big world out there – and nowhere is that more evident than in the sheer amount of adventures and destinations seemingly on tap. This is, of course, a great thing for us at AG Outdoor, both in terms of never running out of things to write about, but also for the team here on a personal level. Our adventure bucket list – no doubt just like yours – never, ever gets smaller; it just continues to evolve as you tick off that long-planned-for trek, only to find that there’s another one that looks just as much fun or challenging.
This huge variety of choice is, of course, a bloody good thing. Unless, that is, you’re trying to compile a bucket list of multiday treks to put in a magazine. In this case, for this issue, it was a tough task, but we reckon we’ve nailed a nice balance between the accessible classics (that have many ways of being ‘done’) and the more aspirational. We limited ourselves to five treks – and yep, we know there are thousands more – but we think we have covered pretty much the full spectrum in terms of a trek for just about anyone, from families through to the hardcore, experienced multiday guru.
Compiling this bucket list also reminded us of the aforementioned cliché; if there ever comes a day where there are no new adventures available – or no classics to revisit – then we’ll all be in serious trouble. Thankfully, that day is a long way off.
Speaking of bucket lists, the other destinations covered in this issue easily qualify. Antarctica is probably the ultimate destination for adventurous travellers; it’s not cheap, but if there’s ever something worth saving for, then a trip to the great white continent has got to be right up there. Others in this issue include cycle touring in the Kimberley, rafting a wild Canadian river, and traversing Australia’s mighty Simpson Desert. If these aren’t on your adventure bucket list now, I reckon they will be after you read about them. Oh, and don’t forget to check out the awesome Kenya DVD attached to the cover.Yep, Kenya is another definite bucket list destination. Enjoy!
