A fanatical fisherman, his passion for marine conservation and communication has sent him all over the country – from the windy, rugged cliffs near Eaglehawk Neck in Tassie, to the farthest reaches of the Great Barrier Reef in far north Queensland. This assignment on flatback turtles is his first for AUSTRALIAN GEOGRAPHIC (page 44).

has been a professional artist for 25 years and is among Australia’s most experienced animal illustrators. Self-taught, Brett has searched for subjects worldwide with many trips to Antarctica, Australasia, the Arctic and the Americas. Brett created the illustrations for our whale poster, free to readers with this issue, and is the artist and co-author of several books dedicated to marine mammal identification.
