Getting there: Kununurra is 829km from Darwin.

Best time to go: The dry season is the best time to visit the Kimberley, when temperatur­es are warm with nights cooling off. This is usually from May to the end of September. The beginning of the touring season depends on how long/short the Wet is.

The adventure: For those who don’t own one, 4WDs can be hired from a number of operators. Take two spare tyres and be sure to have plenty of food and water aboard. Avoid driving at night as wandering stock can cause serious accidents. The GRR is quite busy in the Dry, so help is usually never far away.
