Get­ting there: Ku­nunurra is 829km from Dar­win.

Best time to go: The dry sea­son is the best time to visit the Kim­ber­ley, when tem­per­a­tures are warm with nights cool­ing off. This is usu­ally from May to the end of Septem­ber. The be­gin­ning of the tour­ing sea­son de­pends on how long/short the Wet is.

The ad­ven­ture: For those who don’t own one, 4WDs can be hired from a num­ber of op­er­a­tors. Take two spare tyres and be sure to have plenty of food and wa­ter aboard. Avoid driv­ing at night as wan­der­ing stock can cause se­ri­ous ac­ci­dents. The GRR is quite busy in the Dry, so help is usu­ally never far away.
