PIONEER’S SMALLEST HI-RES PORTABLE

-

Pioneer’s latest high-res portable, the XDP-30R, is its smallest and most affordable yet. Measuring only 63×94×15mm (WHD) the XDP-30R (which is in some countries is called the ‘Private’) is fitted with both a standard 3.5mm unbalanced headphone jack and a 2.5mm four-pole balanced output jack. Thanks to twin two ESS Sabre ES9018C2M DACs, the new XDP30R can support up to 5.6MHz DSD native playback and up to 192kHz/32-bit FLAC/WAV playback. It can also upscale compressed audio and streaming audio files, which Pioneer claims results in an improvement in perceived audio quality from these lo-res file types. The onboard dedicated headphone amplifier (dual Sabre 9601Ks) supports headphones with impedances from 16 to 300 (unbalanced output) and from 32 to 600 (balanced). Maximum power output (unbalanced) is 75mW per channel. When using the balanced output, the maximum power output is 150mW per channel into 32 .

The XDP-30R has 16GB of on-board storage that can be supplemented by fitting microSD cards into the two slots provided, with each slot able to support a 200GB card, for total storage capacity of 416GB. Also fitted are both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi (802.11 n dual-band and A2DP, AVRCP, and SBC respectively). ‘ The audio quality provided by the XDP-30R is unheardof in such a small package,’ said Shelden Walker, of Powermove Distribution, which distributes Pioneer in Australia. ‘ Plus it’s also a compact digital audio player that meets the needs of changing times, because you can customise the sound to your heart’s content with a bass enhancer that provides five ever-deepening levels of bass, a ten-band equaliser with six built-in presets for Flat, Pop, Rock, Jazz, Dance, and Vocal) and three customisable presets to store your own EQ settings, three digital filters—sharp, slow, short, and seven lock-rangeadjust settings, from narrow to wide.’
