VPI’s newest entry-level turntable, the VPI Player, which takes over from the VPI Nomad and comes with a cartridge, a built-in phono stage and a built-in headphone amplifier, has increased in price, to $2,395. The VPI Player has an aluminium platter, which rotates on an oil bath bearing with a PEEK thrust disc and machined graphite impregnated brass bushings using a Thompson Engineering 60 Rockwell case hardened shaft. The platter is belt-driven by a 24V synchronous a.c. motor. The phono stage was specifically designed for the Ortofon 2M Red phono cartridge that’s pre-mounted in tonearm. The headphone amplifier has its own volume control, so you can plug a pair of headphones directly into the turntable, and listen direct from vinyl. The VPI Player turntable is available in two finishes: Hard Rock Maple and Mocha Walnut and sells for $2,395.
