Aries Cerat has released its first integrated amplifier, the Genus, whose preamplifier section is modelled on the company’s Incito preamplifier and uses a high transconductance E280f beam tetrode in its input stage. The Aries Cerat Genus uses twin 813 RCA DHT output valves in its single-ended output stage, for which the company claims a power output of 25-watts per channel, a frequency response of 11Hz to 80kHz –3dB and a signal-to-noise ratio of greater than 100dB unweighted. According to Robert Campbell, of PuraSound, which distributes Aries Cerat in Australia, the new Genus is transformer coupled, with no capacitors, and uses no negative feedback at all, either local or global. ‘ The Genus is based on Concero Monoblocs and was tested running the Contendo horn speaker system,’ he said. ‘ The Contendo is not the easiest load and the Genus handles it well.’ Volume control is accomplished via a resistor ladder rather than a standard potentiometer. The headphone output has both high-impedance and low-impedance settings, and there are five single-ended line-level inputs (via RCA) and one balanced input (via XLR). Manufactured on the island of Cyprus in the Mediterranean, the Aries Cerat Genus measures 520×530×280mm (WHD) and weighs 65kg. Available now, the Aries Cerat Genus sells for $19,950 (RRP).
