mUSIC HaLL mmF 1.5 TUrNTaBLe

Australian HIFI - - SHOW REPORT -

Last year Music Hall’s Roy Hall bowed his entry-level mmf 1.3 turntable with built-in preamplifier. This year he showed an improved model, the mmf 1.5, but while it was certainly this turntable’s first showing at CES, it had been on sale in the US (for $US399) since late in 2017.

Designed to be used with absolute ease even by those with no prior turntable experience, the Music Hall mmf:1.5 is completely set up and ready to play straight out of the box, as the included Music Hall Melody moving-magnet cartridge is already mounted and aligned in the removable headshell that’s fitted to the S-shaped tonearm. ‘ Simply connect the mmf-1.5 to an amplifier and a pair of speakers, place an LP on the platter, then sit back, and absorb the involving detail, warmth, and dynamics for which analog has been renowned for decades,’ said Hall.

The drive motor has an electronic speed-controlled motor for rotational stability and accuracy, and the thick aluminium platter and vibration-damping feet are similar to those found on high-end turntables. It could even be argued that the gorgeous cherry-wood veneer finish is even better than the finish on some high-end turntables. ‘ This is a serious ‘table, not a toy,’ says Hall, ‘ and unlike others, we even include a dust cover for protection, so you don’t have to pay any extra.’
