STYLE STEAL

ARTIST RESIDENCE LONDON 52 CAMBRIDGE STREET, PI ML I CO, SW 1

-

There’s a swish new destination for visitors to the Old Dart: Artist Residence London. Once a bustling pub, the 19th-century building has been lovingly restored and reimagined as a 10-bedroom boutique hotel. Proprietors Justin and Charlotte Salisbury talk us through its charms. Our aim was to create accommodation that felt homely and down to earth. The overall style has been described as ‘rough luxe’ – rustic and eclectic, using reclaimed materials, vintage finds, antique furniture and contemporary art prints alongside luxurious touches like comfy king-size beds and roll-top baths. The base palette is muted and neutral, with pops of colour in the fabrics and striking artworks. Vintage furniture has been upholstered in modern fabrics to bring the rooms to life. In the Grand Suite (left), for example, the armchairs and sofa are covered in an emerald green linen from Howe fabrics to make them stand out from the neutral backdrop. The custom bed frame creates a focal point for the room. The collection of artworks in the hotel makes a great talking point for guests, too. The Connor Brothers, Tammy Mackay, Ben Eine, Harland Miller, Dan Hillier and Pure Evil are just some of the artists on display here. To recreate this look at home, make use of salvage yards for flooring and cladding, choose a light base palette and expose original features where possible. Scour eBay for great antiques – look for interesting or classic shapes and then upholster with contemporary fabrics. Have fun with the walls and add artworks for personality and colour. artistresidencelondon.co.uk
