For outdoor fabrics, look for synthetic olefin fibres, says
Cameron Warwick, joint managing director of Warwick Fabrics. “They have excellent UV-blocking agents to protect against fading, as well as a microscopic ‘shield’ around each fibre to keep it dry and clean, which protects against mould and mildew.”
Other options include acrylic canvas, a bit more expensive but durable. Treated polyesters are affordable but can be stiff and may fade. To keep outdoor soft furnishings looking their best, keep them out of direct sun when not in use, advises Warwick. Rotate their positions, vacuum regularly and spot-clean spills as soon as possible.
