Aus­tralian sports phys­i­ol­o­gist Dr. Sven Rees has helped to cre­ate the world’s first bio-sens­ing sports ear­phone that mea­sure heart-rate vari­abil­ity for ath­letes.

The de­vice can de­tect minute heart-rate vari­ance us­ing minia­turised in­frared Photo plethys­mog­ra­phy and of­fers and new dimension to pre­ci­sion train­ing. The HR+ ear­phones have a built-in ac­celerom­e­ter and can be paired with Strava - and also cus­tomised to pro­vide in­for­ma­tion (via voice feed­back) rang­ing from vir­tu­ally run­ning com­men­tary through to spe­cific dis­tance or time way points, with in­di­ca­tion of plus or mi­nus pace tar­gets.

Its de­sign­ers claim the prod­uct is re­li­able for mea­sure­ment of to­tal en­ergy ex­pen­di­ture, ca­dence and dis­tance, speed and pace. The head­phones weigh in at just 17g, with a listed bat­tery life of 7hrs+ and fea­ture a unique patented de­sign and three axis lock­ing mech­a­nism that keeps the ear­phones locked in place while you are rid­ing.
